Toyota has announced the cost for the new Prius.The MSRP of the Honda Insight is much less than that of the new Prus. The lower MSRP earns the 2010 Insight the title of most affordable hybrid in the U.S. 

A great feature on the new Insight is an ECO assist that will help educate the driver to become more efficient.  It improves performance through the ECON™ button, which controls certain functions of the car, and gives feedback through an ECO scoring system that lets you monitor driving performance as well as gives more incentive to drive green.The Insight uses the latest hybrid motor techniology called the IMA or integrated motor assist. Th IMA system is cheaper to manufacture, lighter than the original, and adds to the overall interior space. The Honda sports a VTEC motor that is connected to an automatic transmission.  Features included on some Insight models are: alloy wheels, cruise control, 6 speaker audio with USB interface, steering wheel mounted paddle shifters, Stability Assist, and a satellite navigation system with voice recognition. Just looking at the Prius and Insight will give you some information that Honda is copying the Prius in design, form, and function. 

Toyota’s answer to the Insight is the Prius with a 160hp 1.8L motor has a couple of different driving settings. These 3 moeds include the power mode which of course adds more power, the EV mode which allows the Prius to run on electricity alone, and the ECO mode which nets the best fuel economy.An accessory on the Prius that is aimed at driver safety is called the precollision system.A laser is used to keep the same amount of distance as the car ahead of you in order to prevent any accidents. Toyota has a new system of buttons on the steering wheel that will help keep the driver safe.

When it comes to price the Insight is hands down the winner, but the gas mileage rating is another story altogether.Early test put the Insight at a combine fuel economy of 41 miles per gallon, and the Prius is reported to get a 46 combined miles per gallon rating.Traveling more than 20,000 miles in only 365 days (when gas is .50 a gallon), the Toyota would only cost just over 00 every year and the Honda would come in 0 more. By owning a Prius, you would save about 53 Gallons of gas and 3 per year, but to break even, it would take over 27 years to break even.Even though the Toyota nets better MPG, the Honda is still a better value due to its low price!
